Riprap Trail
Forrest's Thoughts:
The hike was another fairly easy one. It was about 3 miles to the chimney and back. It was a blue blazed hike, but you started off on the AT for a little while (that's a white blazed trail, if you didn't know). Don't forget to check signposts, otherwise you might miss the left turn to enter Riprap Trail.
There was a viewpoint, a talus slope, chimneys formations, and two hidden viewpoints. The hidden ones, named Cavalry Rocks, were off the trail, but I won't say where. It was a much harder, overgrown section. There were so many amazing views for such a short hike! It was truly breathtaking. You could see for miles.
The hike was beautiful. It may surprise you to know that even though the area burned not too long ago, the vegetation was dense, and made the trail seem rather narrow. Watch out for all the sassafras trees. It's crazy how many we saw. A great, easy hike - unless you go climb Cavalry Rocks too. Then it's harder.
